wisdom

The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. Proverbs 14:1

I love reading through Proverbs.  No matter what I am reading through on my plan, God often prompts me to read the "Proverb of the day" as an addition to it.  And a few days ago, this verse jumped off the page.  When I read it, God was speaking to me about not tearing myself down.  He instead wanted me to build.

Maybe your house right now is a life with roommates and a job, or maybe you have a husband and family.  It doesn't matter where you are, you are called to build.  If you read in Proverbs 31, it talks about being a wife and a mom, that she isn't idle with her hands, that she is encouraging and fruitful with all she does.  I know lots of women who read that chapter and feel intimidated by that, feeling as though they cannot live up to that calling.  Instead of tearing down the possibility before you even try, build.  Take one step at a time.  The Proverbs 31 woman didn't simply get up one day and become the example she was in a moment.  She built, constantly and consistently.  She saw what was in front of her and did it.

So remember this verse when you start picking yourself apart and choose to do or say something positive instead.  Build your house.  Eventually, you will be able to look back and see what all of that building has accomplished.

Ugh, sometimes I am soooo reluctant to build. It's so easy to just take the negative route because you don't think you'll be disappointed. I know it's wrong, though. And the hard work of building does pay off. I just need to do it. Love you.

Love this! When I saw you post this on FB, it jumped out at me too. It is so easy to tear ourselves down when either comparing to others or not where we want to be.

Thanks for this reminder, because I needed it. :)

very very wise...i was going to say you but I guess it's God :) It's very true though and you especially see it when you've been in a relationship a long time - when you can tell how you've been a good builder and not...very humbling.
